Manuela has the premonition that something bad happened to Garibaldi. Teixeira Nunes feels bad when he sees Garibaldi injured and Anita kidnapped. Mello Manso demands that Padilha and Manuel untie Anita. Estevão asks Rosário to stop commenting to anyone that she sees him.
Maria reveals to Onofre that Joana is really his daughter. Mello Manso tells Anita that Garibaldi was shot, but she sees that he’s not among the dead. Tio Antônio and some men decide to go save Anita. Joana feels hatred towards Rosa and Onofre when she finds out the truth. Tio Antônio and his companions attack the Caramurus’s camp but can’t free Anita.
Manuel is killed. Tio Antônio is captured. Joaquim consoles Joana, which makes Caetano jealous. Mariana pretends to twist her foot so that she can be rescued by João Gutierrez. João Gutierrez kisses Mariana, and she kisses him back but then slaps him. Teixeira Nunes finds Manuela, who offers to take care of Garibaldi.
Rosário assures Madre Cecilia that she wants to stay at the convent. Anita disguises herself as a man and escapes. Teixeira Nunes shocks Manuela when he tells her that Anita is pregnant. Anita tries to cross a river and is almost dragged by the current.
