Garibaldi’s boat sinks, and he starts to swim with some of his men. Anita takes care of Manuel, her drunk husband. Chico Mascate asks Anita to be careful with Silvério.
Garibaldi wakes up on a beach and sees that many of his men are dead. Rosário prays, asking for Estevão to return. Joaquim assures his brothers that he forgot Manuela. Garibaldi brings the survivors back to life. Bento Gonçalves sends João Congo and Bentinho to the ranch to sell cattle and get money for the troops.
Manuela assures Perpétua that she shouldn’t repudiate Inácio’s love. Garibaldi asks for help in a shack. Onofre asks Rosa to meet him so that they can resolve an important matter. Inácio brings Perpétua a gift from Tereza.
