Rosário takes Estevão to a shed on the ranch and asks Luzia to help her save him. The Farroupilha troops battle to reconquer Porto Alegre but are forced to withdraw. Rosário and Luzia take care of Estevão. Manuela dreams that she dances with Garibaldi.
Garibaldi arrives in Brazil and meets Joaquim, Bento Gonçalves’s son. Rosário assures Estevão that nothing will separate them. Pedro convinces Netto to proclaim the independence of Rio Grande do Sul. Bento Gonçalves thinks it was a precipitated decision. Bento Gonçalves’s troops are surrounded by Bento Manuel’s and surrender. Zé Pedra finds Estevão in the shed.
Netto tells Caetana that Bento Gonçalves is jailed in Porto Alegre, and she decides to go there to find him. Estevão is kept prisoner by Netto, who agrees to let him stay on the ranch until he can walk. Bento Gonçalves is taken to Rio de Janeiro before Caetana can see him. Rosário asks Manuela to help her free Estevão.
Bento Gonçalves meets Garibaldi. Manuela and Rosário put Estevão on a horse, and he departs. Onofre and Corte Real manage to escape from jail, but Bento Gonçalves stays. Garibaldi arrives at Antônia’s ranch and is received by Manuela.
